After yesterday’s post about the new 2026 study on weight loss and lipedema, I received many thoughtful comments from women sharing their own experiences with fat loss while living with lipedema, particularly those of you who have always been within a normal weight range. Reflections like these are incredibly valuable because they come directly from lived experience with the condition.

At the same time, one of my guiding principles with LipedemaScience is to keep a clear distinction between research findings and personal interpretation. To preserve the integrity of what I communicate, I try not to mix my own reflections into the presentation of scientific studies. My goal is that the research itself, and the perspectives of the researchers who conducted the work, should be what speaks most clearly.

However, many of you shared experiences that resonated deeply with me. I was diagnosed with lipedema in 2012, when I was 20 years old. Throughout my adult life my BMI has ranged roughly between about 19 and 22.5. Even when I was at my leanest, it was still very clear that I had lipedema. The proportions of my body and the characteristics of the tissue were still present.
